Mend Rover Metro Ignition Battery

998cc rover metro wont start.F reg (1989)?

when i try to turn the ignition it makes a continual clicking noise. been told i need new battery, or starter motor. which is more likely?

sounds like it could be a bad electrical connection,bad earth cable connection,most likely the starter solenoid needs replacing.
