Why does my Clarion keeps switching modes and cutting out?

My Clarion CD/Radio ARX7170R keeps switching on and off modes EON and ST while in radio mode,which seems to be linked with a temporary (perhaps a couple of words of conversation in duration or a few bars of a song) cut in receiving. This gets really annoying as it keeps happening, sometimes every few seconds.

Does anyone know how I can stop it cutting out?
