Why does my washing machine leak now that I have cleaned out the filter?

My Hotpoint Aquarius WD420 washer drier was flooding through the soap drawer, and I found that the filter was absolutely crammed full of rubbish (and quite a bit of loose change. Since emptying the rubbish from the white plastic bit that halds the ball I have had water leaking from the top of the rubber filter housing although the jubilee clip is as tight as it will go. Help!!
