How to fix Ryobi PLT 3043A?

How can I fix a Ryobi PLT 3043A line trimmer which has stopped bump feeding. It appears that the line holder cannot easily depress enough to enable the tongue and slots in the housing to align, thus enabling rotation of the line holder and cord feeding. It almost seems as though the tension spring mounted under the line holder will not allow it to depress sufficiently?
