How do I get the motor housing cover off of a Kenmore Vacuum Cleaner Model?

How do I get the top cover off the motor housing/cord reel area on a Kenmore Vacuum Cleaner Model 116.2045080. I found two screws in the front but the other screws appear to be under the cord take-up pedal.

of course, it was a different model-116.2639082. the housing was stuck a little, but moderate force worked
