Freelance XD500 additional hand set hearing problem?

I had a similar problem. I expect the solution is the same as mine was.
Carefully remove the battery, and screws beneath it, then the casing should prise apart to reveal the workings. You will probably find that the connection to the small speaker has come unsoldered. Check with a circuit tester. If that is the case, remake the joint carefully with a SMALL soldering iron. Don't use too much heat. Reassemble after checking again. Should be ok then.

have you checked the obvious things ? Is the volume on the handset turned up ? Or is it muted ?
If everythign seems OK, then try unregistering the handset, then resetting to factory defaults, then register again with the base station. If it still doesn't work, invest in another handset.
