abs light comes on and off how to fix?

abs lights after driving for about an hour or so on the highway ohtewise its fine. it's a 1199 dodge caravan

after removing wheel follow wiring will enter back of sensor ,dirt can build up on front of sensor which can stop it reading, its worth cleaning them and checking connections are good first, before going to next stage, checking each one with multimeter for resistance, with wiring disconnected ,if you have haynes manual for your car go to braking section will give you info on readings that are to be expected good luck r dalton

each wheel has an abs sensor these can get very dirty take wheel off and clean thoroughly each one in turn observe any change. another tip have you changed brake fluid ? very important, must be changed every 2 years, brake fluid is hydroscopic in other words absorbs moisture,if brown in colour must be changed, failure to do so will lead to damage to abs unit which is very expensive to replace and more importantly possible total brake failure without warning. dont risk it, a garage will charge about 60 -80 pounds to change brake fluid or do it yourself with an easy bleed tool, if you do it yourself start bleeding furthest wheel from master cylinder working back to closest dont overtighten bleed nipples only need nipping up ensure no residual air in each line before moving onto next one good luck r dalton
