I have a straight line across the center of the screen?

I have a line across the center of my screen,I have sound and the line is about 1 inch .sometimes the picture will pop in

Don't say what set you have or model number but the fault is called frame/vertical collapse and could be a dry solder joint, faulty integrated circuit, or faulty capacitor within the vertical output circuit.
Not really a serious problem but has been known to burn a permanent line on the tube if continued to be operated while in this condition.
