How can I fix my Hotpoint First Edition WMA 13?

you have a steel band or plastic band around the door seal. remove the band and peel back the door rubber from where the door interlock is situated.
2 screws secure the interlock. undo the two screws and the lock will be able to be pulled out of it`s position. it has 2 or some have 3 wires. remember or write down where the wires are placed on door switch.remove switch and replace in opposite order of removal. 10 minute job and not expensive if you order parts online,
