Door handle came off?

Interior bedroom door for the children’s room, four screw fitting to thin paper/wood layer of door – there is no solid wood frame beneath where the handle screws go.
Looks like the screws have been pulled out and re-entered with a larger size a few times. Metal frame for handle will not accommodate larger diameter screws.
Suggestions please on how I can re-fill holes and use the handle again would be appreciated – thanks :)
