Your television has frame collapse (total loss of height). If left on with a horizonal line you can burn the phosper, leaving a permanent line. Frame collapse is very common and easily and inexpensive to repair, usually by replacement of the frame I.C. itself and/or resoldering work. Take it to your local TV service center.
