The sewing machine was given to me and looked like it hadn't been used in a while. I started it up to see if it still worked and everything was fine, but the needle stopped moving suddenly even though the light remained on. It started up again suddenly then stopped again. I'm going to give it a good cleaning and oiling, its pretty dusty, but could it be a more serious problem?
Sounds like a electrical fault, could be motor brushes, fault on cable or foot control , test cable with meter, if motor brushes worn down change them ,check footcontrol with meter , hope is helps ,,also check the machine is free when hand wheel is turned..

Hello Minke,
You need to check the connections on the foot control before you go any further, that is the most likely problem.
