Mend Saunier Duval Vesuvius Hot Boiler Problem Water

My Saunier Duval Vesuvius gives hot and cold but nothing between!?

Our old Saunier Duval Vesuvius boiler has developed this problem of just giving hot or cold water but nothing between which makes having a shower very tricky.
Two engineers have said they can do nothing but, as it is such a simple boiler I feel sure there must be a simple solution as I don't want to throw it away. Any ideas?
