What could be wrong with my year 2000 fiat punto?

Help! My fiat punto is making a terrible noise and is juddering alot. I have also recently noticed a strong burning smell and there is a noise which goes off after a few minutes of switching off the engine. I am getting really worried about it and don't know what it could be. I am thinking it is something to do with overheating and the noise could be the fan but i really don't have a clue when it comes to car maintenance. As i stated,it is a year 2000 model Fiat Punto with only one previous owner. I had a new clutch put in quite recently and also an exhaust. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
