central locking not workin on my renault clio 1999 rt?

sounds like the remote key needs re-programming, get into car, lock doors using the button on centre console, keep finger pressed on button you will hear it lock, keep pressed untill you hear it double lock, then keeping button pressed press button on key, hope this works for you all, it did mine.

Check that the key is within a line-of-sight of the receiver (i.e. next to drivers window), if not it won't work. If key is above roof height then the roof seems to block the signal. Don't wish to patronise but to make doubley sure try it sat in the car with key sender pointed straight at receiver (little black bit around cabin light cluster / rear-view mirror). My '98 Clio 1.4RT has temperamental central-locking and this seems to be the cause. Good luck anyway.

known problems with the central locking are the receiver by the rear view mirror just below the aerial getting wet and corroded also if the battery in key dies then you may need to have reprogrammed at a Renault dealer a good site for help is http://www.renaultforums.co.uk/

when you use a key to lock a clio door only that door will lock for all doors to lock you have to use the button on the key

heyy i have the same problem woth me 1998 rt
wen i bought the car the central locking worked from the key n the blip n then worked now and agen for a bit now dsnt work at all

my m8 has the alize 1999 and his key works fine as a remote sender so that should be working as well

Hmmm, me too - I have a 1998 1.2 Clio and the button works on the centre console, but locking/unlocking either of the front doors does not operate the central locking.

some facts ... The key has a battery - I changed it but still no good. (Although I think the battery just feeds the LED bulb in the key). i.e. I don't think the key is a remote sender for the locking - however locking the front doors should operate the locking

I know the previous owner very well and she's advised that it's never worked and that Renault wanted £200+ to fix it.

Any appropriate help gratefully accepted :)

i dont have an answer unfortunatrly but i have the exact problem on my clio. just wondered whether you had found the answer to why this is?
