Mend Fiat 25 Help Jtd

help needed with fiat stilo 1.9 jtd?

hi i have got fiat stilo jtd and a week ago engine warning light came on and i gave car to mechanic/mot tester friend whom had all diagnostic equipment and my cars ecu would not allow it to communicate so i took it to fiat dealer and at a cost of £80 to plug it to computer they told me it was suspect egr fault and wanted £300 to repair so i sourced egr valve on internet for £100 and my mechanic friend fitted part for me (£200 saving) for 25 min job but engine warning light didnt go off so i drove car for around 60 miles and warning light went out so i thought great and then another 10 miles on it came on again with no loss of performance at all then suddenly car lost some of its power so i called on the AA and also there diagnostic computer could not connect with cars ecu so im lost for ideas and fiat want another £80 to plug it in again so do fiat have different diagonstics to others or is it standard programmes as i think fiat may have pulled wool over my eyes replies with ideas would be much appreiciated
THANKS a LOT

My 1.9 jtd stilo lost power saying low oil pressure. Wouldnt start straight away after that. But then there was a,clicking noise and a crackling noise under bonnet. Started a few hours later. Crackling noise stopped but clicking noise still there and flattening, the battery. Fault code saying fuel sensor rack. Anybody any ideas?

thanks to all peoples input but i eventually got some sense from fiat it turned out they had wrongfully diagnosed the faulty egr valve and it turned out to be faulty turbo pressure realease valve which fiat agreed to supply and fit for me but with no labour costs which was nice of them i suppose
thanks again

fiat electrics are poor quality ,suggest check all connectors, if dirty clean with appropriate solvent cleaner also check fuse contacts are clean and all relays are working properly remember car electrics are mostly 12 volts it takes little corrosion to cause big problems good luck r dalton

Hello Kelvin,
My Stilo JTD has devloped a similar problem.... I bought myself an OBD2 scanner from eBay for £30 and read the error codes on my car myself. I got a P0235 error code which apparently indicates a faulty EGR valve. If you want to try for yourself look for an OBD 2 or U380 scanner on eBay. You'll find the socket that you need to plug it into at the top of the fuse panel to the right of the steering column.... Hope this helps...
