polaroid 37" tv makes a buzzing noise?

had the same buzzing issue and then the black screen issue.

Tried replacing the 2 capacitors and it worked for me. $2.80 and a borrowed soldering iron.

I had a problem with my 19" Polaroid tv combo. No capacitors looked bad so I did the old trick of reheating all the solder connections of ONLY the components not the chips or ICs. This restrengthens the solder connections after they get old and gritty with all that heat over the years.
That done I turned the set on and had a great picture ever since.

Did this like 6 months ago after a neighbor was throwing the TV out after a $350 quote from a repairman. Cost me $3 for the parts and these instructions were very easy to use. Making the noise again so I will try to fix again using the same stuff, even if I have to do this every 6 months its well worth it. I have an $800 TV that after today I will have only spent $6 on and 20 minutes of time. Thanks a million to whoever put these instructions on here

2 x 1000uf 16v capasitors
a soldering iron
lead free silver solder
and about 20 minutes -
as said in previous posts - replace the 2 1000uf 10v capasitors on the power supply board with the 16v.
capasitors cost 56p each at maplin - I did whole job inc buying soldering iron & solder caps and screwdriver for just over £11.00... bargain!
no previous experience necessary - was my first time in the back of a tv - dont be scared - if I can do it then so can you!!

If you replace these caps with radio shack caps they are 80 degrees and will not last long replace with 105 degree caps.

replace capacitors in the power supply 2x 100 mf near the heat sink ..........not a job for the handyman ..........get some one with electronic know how parts available in Maplins

As stated above the problem is indeed the two capacitors for the power supply. The manufacturer should have installed higher voltage capacitors on these control boards. With a lil soldering knowledge and a couple of bucks you can easily fix this problem. Just follow the url to the fixya.com thread posted above. The instructions are easy to follow and will fix this annoying problem. Also, check the other capacitors on the board too. I personally had another cap of different size going bad as well. So, you may need to check out you control board before heading to the electronics store to buy caps. You could need more than one size.

Carried out the procedure of replacing the 2 capacitors as recomended by Guy. Worked a treat and only cost £0.40.

Hi. The problem is probably 2 capacitors on the powersupply board in the controlbox. You can easily fix it yourself.
Defective Parts:2 CapXon 1000uf 10v caps.
Replace with Parts:2 Off brand 1000uf 16v caps which you can get at radio shack. Check the attached link and you will see your not the only person with Polaroid problems. http://www.fixya.com/support/r741402-polaroid_flm_373b_lcd_tv_black_screen

Unfortunately I had the same problem with my 37" Polaroid LCD TV. It cost me $500 to fix and three months later my TV would not turn on. The light turned from red to blue but nothing happened so I unplugged the unit for a few minutes and tried again. This worked for about two weeks... never again after that. Another $350 to my TV repairman and it worked for another five months. It is now sitting in the garage because it won't turn on and I refuse to spend another dime on it.
I would be willing to buy yours for a few dollars and swap out some boards and at least try to fix mine by myself. Let me know if you are interested.
