Mend Treadmill 770 Ekg

Treadmill Proform 770 EKG Heats up?

My Proform 770 EKG Treadmill has a Choke (Coil/Inductor/transformer) inline (series) with the Motor. The core of the inductor heats up quite a bit when in use. I assume it is intended to remove high frequency components and provide some current limit. I had to remove the cover and place a fan near it to keep it from over heating. What can I do to reduce the heating? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If motor choke is hot it means its drawing 12-14 amps and you have your 15 amp breaker to protection for over current. Feel the casing of motor should be hot too you have a thermal element in motor to protect from overheating. Find the culprit be feeling for hot spots when machine is off.

Thermal element in motor casing working to protect motor from overheating. Find cause (friction) and rectify all involving drive belt, walking belt, etc.

I bought one in 2002 then right after the 90 day warranty expired it would stop 10-15 min into a workout, no matter the incline. Sears came out and said it would be $450 to replace the belt and board as it was worn out. How can it be worn out it's 4 months old and we used it maybe 4-5 times per week at 30-45 minutes at a time. It has never worked right since, it runs and stops. It's not practical to repair when a new one is $500-$600. I would be hesitant to recommend this brand to anyone, however, when they offer the extended warranty you might want to buy one. overall this was a bad investment.

I have the same problem. ICON fitness is not customer oriented and hasn't done anything for me but cost me money in S&H and restocking fees...they play a guessing game in attempt to resolve the problem. I guess they want you to junk the old machine and buy a new one.

Same problem here. All i see are the problems, does anyone have an answer, or the manufacturer a solution.

Same machine, same problem. I've adjusted the belt, and followed the instruction book exactly. I'll never buy another. The abrupt stop makes it dangerous. If anyone has a solution please let us know. This many people with the same problem, means there is something wrong somewhere.

Our 770 just started doing the same thing. Smells hot then stops. Is about 5 years old.

So I should not buy one of these machines then?

I have noticed my 770 EKG doing the same thing lately - never noticed it before but I did notice that I was in current limit (LED on main board) probably because I over-tightened the walking belt. The other day the speed went from 6 mph to full speed on its own. Couldn't adjust the speed - had to press stop. Re-started it and it worked again OK? Wondering if these controllers don't have a tach loss feature and if my speed sensor is wonky or had a loose connection?

I too have an older model that heats up. I have not noticed a strong odor.

I don't know the answer but I have the same problem with my proform 785 treadmill. I hope the manufacturer offers a solution. My treadmill releases a very strong odor when the motor heats up.
