It's simpler than most notice boards will tell you. Get a replacement from an on line scrap yard. Make sure you get the right one. It matters if your car has front fogs or not. I saw most people's answer to this involves taking the steering wheel off. That's because the unit hits the speedo housing and won't make it all the way out. (you won't need to take the wheel off though) You need to take the top and bottom cowling off from the steering wheel. (two 20T torx from underneath) then there are three bolts that hold the steering column up. Take those out. (Actually I took two out and loosened one and got enough wigggle room ) If you take the three bolts out then you can drop the column a bit and by undoing the two 10T torx on the stalk it will slide out. Remove the plugs in the back of it and put them in the new stalk and slide the new one in. Put the screws back, put the bolts back that hold the column up and put the cowling back together.
A word of warning. Be careful not to catch anything on the ignition switch. I managed to break the transponder to bits somehow. This is the bit that recognises the key and cuts the fuel pump off. Being a clever dick I managed to repair it, but best not to make that mistake in the first place. Be careful with the plastic cowling when putting it back especially around the ignition switch. I hope this helps
