how do i "switch" wireless to on there is no switch to put on this may seem?
i have an advent laptop which im trying to get going on the internet but im just getting message saying no connection available well there is wireless already in the house so i presumed it would work automatically also says make sure wireless is switched on how do i do that on the laptop
on my advent the wirless button is the next one to the power on/off button

Some laptops have a physoical switch, some use a series of keystrokes and some have software utility. As you have an Advent it could be any one of those three. (Because Advent doesn't have a single maker as it is an Own Brand of DSG - Currys/PC World.)
Try reading the manual, or you may have a guide on the laptop itself. Failing that (and I have not come across manuals that do not tell you help to switch wireless on.) try DSGs technical site www.thetechguys.co.uk
