water leak on maytag performa washer?

During the spin cycle, water begins to come out from under my machine, very near the front of the machine. Also, a rattling sound is clear during the spin cycle when the water is draining and tub is spinning. What's wrong?

I should have said "as described below" in my answer. I was referring to removing the front with a putty knife and a 5/16s socket driver.

I took the front panel off as described above. You can do it without moving the washer or disconnecting any lines. Then I ran it through the cycle. The leak cam out at the very beginning of the spin cycle, between the plastc tub and where it mounts on to the circular metal frame.

When you lift the top you can see if the small hose for filling liquid detergent has come lose, it will will leak from there if it has.
especially if it has been bouncing around.

I an not sure about that particular model, but most of the Maytags have a "coin trap" in the drain system underneath, before the drain pump.
It is either behind a small door on the from of the machine, or the bottom panel may pull off. There may also be a drain pipe that can be removed to avoid flooding the kitchen!
Unscrew the cover and remove it, clean out any items trapped in there and replace the trap.
1) The water leak itself may be due to the drain pump pushing the object out through the side of the hose from the drum. It is possibly something like a hairclip is at fault.
2) Another possibility is that the object is caught between the drun and the housing, but is too big to be drawn into the drainage pipe, it is then catching between the drum and housing when on the spin cycle.

We have a performa that we bought in 99. It was fine and did countless loads(we have 3 little ones) until we moved houses last august. Since then, it has bucked like a bronco on most of the spin cycles, and today began to leak all over the floor. I took the back off thinking it was the pump, but it was bone dry. I then had my wife start an "oversized" load, and took the front panel off. For about the first 30 seconds or so of the spin cycle, the water rose right out of the top of the drum. Once it drained enough of the water, it was OK. We tried it again on the "large" setting and it was fine. The bukcing like a bronco, however, is still happening....May be time to get rid of the Maytag...a sad day since I've grown up with Maytags, and rarely had a problem!

Hello,

From the front of ther washer, use a putty knife to push in on the 2 spring clips at each end of the top panel and then lift up. Then remove the two screws off the front panel and lift it off the clips. Check out where the water is comming from, probably the pump.
