Mend Dewalt Model Removed Screws

How to remove chuck from Dewalt Hammer drill?

How do I get off a keyed chuck from a Dewalt Hammer Drill, Model #DW505? I removed the 3 screws from the top portion of the drill. I can see the gears, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the chuck (the part at the very tip of the drill). It won't open or close when you use the key. Thank you.

There is no normal wrench that fits in between the chuck and the collar. What did you or could you use... or does it have to be a speacial wrench ordered from DeWalt?

Here is a link for a diagram of that tool. http://www.toolsandmachinery.com/index.php?cPath=1_475_664_681
If you look at part # 32 (the spindle) there is 2 slots for a wrench right behind the chuck. Make sure the chuck screw is removed (left handed thread). Put the wrench behind the chuck, then take a pipe wrench and put on the chuck and try to loosen it (normal thread on chuck).
Hammerdrills are tough to get chucks off, but hopefully this helps.

there is a screw down in the centre through the jaws of the chuck. NOTE this is a left hand thread screw you need to get to this first before you can seperate it from the spindle. the chuck is then easier said than done but screwed off with normal right hand thread
