Ford Mondeo glove box?

I removed my 2001 Mondeo glovebox as follows. First removed the silicon damped strut at top left rear. After much tugging managed to free bottom left pivot from the gripper jaws. By shunting around I was able to remove the other sides pivot. All this because cig lighter fuse had blown.Re-assembly is the reverse but I now have a problem with the damper strut which although positioned will not stay engaged in it's hole.It pops out when opening the glove box.Has anybody some info on this?.

tried to open the glove box on our mondeo and it won't open. the latch comes up and down with a bit of force. tried banging it pulling with all my might. still won't open. would have a look at the manual - but guess what? its in the glove box along with the sat nav and purse and phone!!!!!!!
can it be opened by some magical switch from the outside??? and there is no lock on it.
its a 05 reg tdci lx

open the glove box, gently force the two sides inwards, once they are released pull whole thing towards you then remove tension cord......voila you are done

you can access this fusebox by removing the cloth cover underneath the glovebox
