ABS light Citroen Xantia?

So further to the advice by Nias which is right of course what you can do is connect the ABS light on the dashboard to the Battery light or another bulb that comes on when the ignition setting is on but disconnect it from the supply from the ABS unit. That way to all appearances your ABS is functioning correctly and you'll pass an MOT. Just drive like you're in a car without ABS, because you are.

Permananetly on suggests the chip controller is broken (or short somewhere
On and off over bumps etc - flashing or sometimes on sometimes off suggest a failure of a sensor and most likely a front one.
Try hard braking when safe (EXTREME CAUTION REQUIRED FOR OBVOIUS REASONS)and see if you skid on all wheels (CHIP)or just one (SENSOR)

disconnect and reconnect the negative terminal on the battery, it should make the light go out and pass an MOT!

there isent a problem with the breaks as sutch the abs is a system that scences a wheel ia going to skid under panic breaking and for a thousanth of a second releases your breaks and then reaplyes them this happens posibly hundreds of times a second all you notice is a buzzing or pulsing at the peddle . this system could save your life in avoiding or stoping short of a pile up so its obveously a good thing , but it want stop the breaks basic function to stop the wheel. your car will fail an m.o.t if the light doesent work corectly
