T1200 Wiring?

Hi I appear to have made a big error. Purchased a T1200 westwood second hand, nice condition. When i come to start it the ignition switch was worn / intermittent. Thought i would give it a birthday and purchased a switch that was sold as for a westwood fitted it, terminal block fitted ok when i come to turn the key it blows a fuse. On investigation it appears that the pink is live in when i turn the key to first position 2 black wires become live as one is earthed on the solenoid bracket i am not suprised. Is there any body out there who can give me some guidance?

I think I can dig up a wiring diagram. There is more that 1 type of switch that has the 5-pin socket on the back unfortunately.

With luck, your old switch will have the terminals labelled ;-

G - Ground (usually obvious as the tag is connected to the case)
M - Magneto (GROUNDED when switch 'OFF', OPEN otherwise)
S - Starter (Battery voltage when turned to 'START' open otherwise).
L - Load (Battery voltage unless 'OFF')
B - Battery

If you can identify the terminals on you old switch, and compare them to the new one, you have 2 choices ;-

1) Get the right switch for your application, or
2) Re-wire the connector to put the appropriate connections in the right place to match the new switch.

Hope this helps!
