Sounds like bad connection on motor, remove pins, close up and refit. Should have an ignition live, an earth and a switched live when switch operated - if you've got these and closing the pins up doesn't work then motor faulty.
If you haven't got all the feeds then check wiring where it passes from body to tailgate, common for breaking.
