help replacing vacuum pump?

i have a 99 ford escort and im replacing the vacuum pump.I have removed the old one but im unable to get the new one into place.It seems as if the pipe coming from the engine is to long

You will probably find that the cam was in the operating position when you took the pump off, manual says remove rocker cover and turn engine (by hand ) untill the cam is back from the pump before removing, this presumably prevents a problem when fitting replaicement, hope this helps as I have got to fit one on mine
