check the High tension lead from the controller unit to see if it's short circuiting or tracking, can you hear a cracking/snapping noise? If not you obviously need the boiler serviced to check out the ignition electrode and or the main control board

There is no pilot light on the Potterton MF, it has electronic (spark) ignition
