Mend Compaq C500 Laptop Connection Settings

Connect PC to tv and play DVDs?

Trying to connect to TV and play DVDs through tv from compaq Presario C500. Using a Vga cable I can get my background screen on tv but unable to do anything. Is there some settings I need to change in my Control panels.
