Can anyone help? How can I ignite the boiler which doesnt have an ignition button. The only thing left in its place is a red cap with a cross on it.

them boilers are controlled by a programmer for ch and dhw and the boiler will light up when you select hot water for example from the programmer.
is the boiler doing anything when your programmer demands?? can you hear system pump running, fan running???

i am now not sure how to ignite the boiler - especially as the button is broken. the gas is via calor gas not mains gas. The pump on the tank has been pushed so apparently gas is available to use. Any ideas?

it lights on demand, the red fella you mention is overheat stat
