Mend Ideal Standard Cistern

Ideal Standard cistern?

My Ideal Standard cistern continues to fill with water beyond the required level. I know that I need to replace a valve and the kind it takes, but I don't know where it is located. Can you help me, please?

Just had this problem with my Ideal Standard today - lifting the arm did not stop the water entering the cistern. Here's what I found.

My inlet assembly has the inlet valve and arm on top of a plastic pipe that extends all the way down to the bottom of the cistern and the external water inlet. This plastic pipe is actually in two parts, with a plastic ring around the junction. It turned out the water was leaking into the cistern from between these two parts.

To fix, lift the plastic ring upward along the pipe (it will take a bit of a tug to make it click loose). This will unlock the two parts of the pipe from each other. Ensure all the washers inside are sound. Put the pipes back together - ensuring the top pipe is firmly seated in the bottom - and click the ring back down to lock.

This fixed the problem for me. I guess I had accidentally banged the inlet pipe (while repairing the outlet valve) just hard enough to unseat the top pipe.

For the original question - the valve is located at the very top of the inlet pipe, connected to the arm. If a leaky valve is the problem, water will be leaking from the top of the inlet pipe rather than the halfway point.

Hi Lifting the arm does not stop the system from filling up. I've had to turn off the value to stop the water entering the system.

Lifting the end of the arm does nothing. I removed the arm and then looked at the top of unit the lets water into the system, I can see two parts of the unti that can look like the can be unsrewed and have tried but its not giving, so a little reluvtant to try harder. Can I unscrew the top of the unit to see if there is potentially a build up of lime scale, should I attemp it or do I need to buy the whole unit.

if you take the lid off first, and then flush it , let it empty, , when it starts to fill up again , lift the arm with the ball on the end of it , up all the way, and hold it up all the way , and see if it knocks the water? if it can do that , its fine , its just the little adjuster nut , thats on the end of the arm , that needs to be turned anti colckwise, to stop it filling beyond the required level, ill check back here , mick
