innition switch or alternator??

I have a Iveco daily 4910, the battery SOMETIMES goes flat in a couple of hours, or overnight. currently I disconnect the battery when parked to temporily solve this problem. Which is more likely,, the ignition switch, or the alternator, and how can I tell.??

problem is probably water in fuse box at drivers feet .common on older daily's

in my opinion your problem is neither the ignition nor the alternator. in this case I feel that your problem is a faulty starter. in this case the starter is drawing to much current and is shorting out the battery thus the battery is being drawn down when the vehicle is turned off.

Hope this helps you fix your problem:

could also be a relay that is stuck closed-check to see if any are excessively hot before you start up,indicating that it has been on a very long time

Hi I have never known the ignition switch to cause the battery to go flat unless that is its still ON when you take the key out. This is easy to see. Possibly the alternator if the regulator has gone short circuit, or there could be something else draining the battery which is still on when the key is out. ie. extra lights in the back for example. If you have a voltmeter you can test the alternator yourself, its quite straight forward. It could also be the fact that your battery is knackered, is it new or old, as if it is an old battery they tend not to hold charge when they are knackered.
