how do I remove artex from wall?

I want to remove the artex of my walls can you tell me whether there is asbestos in the artex we had the artex put on 1988

You just cant scrape Artex off the wall dry as it might contain asbestos fibres (pre 1985) and needs a product to soften it and keep it wet at all times. X-Tex is an awesome product for doing just that. here is the link i found it on.

We used a wallpaper steamer which softens the artex. Is still a terrible job though. Even with great care the walls needed skimming.

Have you considered an artex cover? Might save you the effort of scraping if you need to skim anyway. Make sure you seal it before painting as it drinks paint.
