i removed the large chrome screw from the pump when i do this the spindle starts agian and the rads heat up! do i need a replacment pump also the water in the pump is not really dark or black colour ..

You say it is not pumping water when hot, when that occurs remove large chrome screw and check the spindle inside is spinning you can use a small screw driver to release but do not use to much force could damage spindle, be mindful with hot water spillage and any electrical connections. Pump could be jamming because the system is sludged the sludge can work into a paste that is enough to seize the pump when hot.

the pump was replaced about six months ago its a grundfos could i open or test the pump myself ? or get a relacment pump installed . steve

the pump is still on as it makes a slight humming noise and gets very hot but is not pumping the water too the rads
