how can I fix Briggs and Stratton 28A707 electric starter?

I have an old Snapper riding mower Sr928. It has a 10hp Briggs and Stratton 28A707 with electric start and recoil backup. I need a diagram or troubleshooting guide to repair the electric starter. I had the starter replaced about 6 months ago and it worked a couple of times and quit. I can crank it with the rope but would rather use the key!! Does anyone know where I can get a service manual?
Thanks!

If the starter quit after 6 months, then either the replacement starter was faulty, or there's another problem.

It's likely that the starter solenoid is faulty. To test ;-

Disconnect the small wire from the solenoid. connect a temporary wire to the terminal you just disconnected. Touch the other end of the temporary wire to the positive battery terminal. If the engine cranks, you have a problem with the ignition switch or safety switches. If not, use a car jumper cable to connect the battery positive to the starter terminal. If engne now cranks, you have a faulty solenoid. If not, you have (another) faulty starter.
