Mine did this for 3 seconds every time it was switched off. To fix it, after cleaning the metal filters, press - when the error message shows.

Press the O button twice in quick succession when the fan is off. Clean the filters using dry kitchen roll to remove dust and then run them through the dishwasher making sure then are dry before you replace them.

Great! This worked for me.
(I read elsewhere that holding the O down for 3 seconds will reset but this didn't work for my NEFF extractor).

The metal filters in the extractor fan require cleaning. They can be removed by unclipping from the extractor fan and cleaning in a diswasher or by hand with soapy water. You can cancel the E message and alarm beep by pressing the '0' button twice in rapid succeession
