Russell Hobbs Steamglide 2200 - spitting out black flecks?

At random intervals small black or dark-coloured flecks of something come out and get ironed into the fabric - dont remember any cleaning instructions when we bought it. Is there some cleaning we should be doing?

This probably stems from the calcium in your water supply....you can buy a descaling solution that is used for kettles, but there is a good chance that the debris will come out from your iron for a while yet - should you use it.
