Mend MTD Ranch King 12hp 42" Lawn Mower Starter Solenoid

How can I fix my Mtd Ranch King 12hp 42" ?

Some times it will start with the key and sometimes it won't. Brand new battery and nothing happens with the key, but sometimes it works. I usually have to jump the starter to get it started. I don't know if there are any other safety switches, the only one I found is on the right side the deck arm for raising and lowering the deck pushes a button on top of the switch. Or is a a solinoid problem?

Mine has a safety swith in the seat too so you have to be on the seat for it to start
