Not able to download movie from Sony DCR-HC32E to Laptop DELL 1525 via 1394?

I have a 4-pin - 4 pin cable to connect Sony handycam DCR-HC32E to my laptop- DELL inspiron 1525 with Windows Vista home premium, but nothing happens , i have tried using different movie making packages like, Sony picture package, Nero 7.5, Ulead -8.0, Windows movie maker ( with Windows Vista ) but still not able to capture video.
Please give step by step solution for both connection and for any pre-required softwares / drivers that need to be installed for capturing the video&audio. If there is some driver that is missing to be installed then if possible provide the link for free download of this driver. If the cable is faulty how to find out that the cable is faulty.
