Mend Fiat Install Cd Player

How can I install a cd player in my fiat punto?

Hi,

I've got a 1.2 2000 fiat punto with a tape deck built into the dash (original setup). I'd like to know how I can remove the tape deck and install a cd player. Although I'm generally handy with diy and pcs I'm new to tape\cd car installations.

Someone mentioned you can buy a removal kit from halfords, does it come with instructions?

Any info much appreciated

"Wiring A Punto Stereo To Ignition Using ISO" (yellow red wires)
________________________________________
So basically, if you have a Punto like mine (mine's a 51 reg with the 6 speakers+subwoofer system), you will have an ISO connector in two parts, a white part and a black part. The black one is for the speakers, the white one is for power + control signals.

On the top row of the white one, pin 3, is a green and blue wire. This is an ignition switched power connection (as shown in the Haynes manual, and which I confirmed by testing with a multimeter). It is wired through the 7.5A fuse F49 in the interior fusebox.

I connected this to the "switched power" input of the radio. Your colours may be different, but if it's like mine (Pioneer DEH-5000UB ... nice head unit by the way) then the connections are:
Car black (pin 8) --> Radio black (battery negative)
Car red+white (pin 4) --> Radio yellow (THIS IS THE PERMANENT POWER)
Car green+blue (pin 3) --> Radio red (THIS IS THE SWITCHED POWER)

To do this I used a paperclip to pop pin 7 (red wire) out of the ISO socket on the loom that came with the stereo, and poked it back in so as to magically become pin 3, before connecting it to the car. (So no modification to the car wiring was needed, which was nice.)

the red wire poked back in to slot 3, to live in its new home above the yellow wire:

I was worried the 7.5A fuse might not be enough, so before I did all this I measured the current drawn by the head unit and it turned out it takes hardly any current from the switched wire anyway (my crappy £2.99 multimeter showed 0.00A, so less than 0.01A... ). Rather, all the current used to power the radio is drawn through the permanent connection. The switched connection seems just to be used as a signal line. This wasn't surprising, since the yellow wire on the loom is big and thick while the red one is quite thin at the head unit end. (All this might not be the case on other radios of course so I would advise checking for yourselfl!!)

So anyway, it's all working lovely, and I'm glad I didn't need to dismantle the steering column and splice the orange wire (although it would have been fun!) Hope this helps.

beware of non fiat cd players, had an LG fitted by Halfords together woith Halfords fascia plate. CD is ok but is allways live even when switched off and ignition removed result flat battery in 2 days of non use.Halfords have now removed player and refunded. Any one else had more success short of paying £300 for Fiat player.

If it is the original fiat radio, there should be 4 small small holes in each corner. Push something small such as an alan key into these holes and once you have done the last, the radio should pop out an inch or so. From here you can fully remove it by pulling it out and detaching the cables. Be ware, when installing the new radio/cd player the old 'cage' might need to be removed and a new one supplied with the player will need to be inserted.

i have the same question as you and upon asking this question i was told you can purchase a fiat cd player that is designed for the punto it actually comes with the surround attached so that it will be the same size as the tape deck that you are replacing i am guessing you could get this from fiats but upon browsing e-bay i have come across one if you go to e-bay and click on cars, acceseries and tuning then type in the top box punto cd player you will see the one they have for sale and this will give you an indication of how this can be done.

Well I have bought my wife (after much hinting) CD player for her X reg Punto. go to http://www.caraudiosecurity.com. purchase cd tuner (cd player) and facia adaptor (cover) and Autoleads: PC9-130 - Sony to Land Rover s/w interface. Thats it you will save about 40-50 quid. and then goto the autoleads.com website for installation details.
