Low Battery On My Alarm Panel?

Good Afternoon,

I have a British Gas alarm with a KP5501Z Keypad, however today the trouble light has appeared due to there being low battery (Main Panel backup battery is low). What does this mean and can I fix it myself??? Is it just a case of replacing rechargeable batteries?
