How can I fill a hole in plasterboard, made by spot-light in my bathroom?

Hi - I have a spot-light, which I changed the bulb in - but while doing that, the whole fitting came out. While putting back up, the plasterboard crumbled, and I now have a loose spot-light, with a noticable whole in the plasterboard.

Can I take the whole fitting out, and cover the hole in the plasterboard, then reset the spotlight along the plasterboard a bit?

Thanks,
Mark

Congratulations....I thought this only happened to me. So, you can fit a bigger spotlight or you could fill the hole and start again. To fill the hole you could pass a strip of plasterboard through the hole and lie it flat, prior to fixing it with some screws through the ceiling. This would allow fresh plaster to stick, and you could hold your patch in place if you had stuck a woodscrew through its centre whilst you fix it. Just make sure you have enough wire to play with if you do this, and there is no insulation too close to the new position - and that there is no joist too near.
