hi im trying to bleed my fuel system on a tractor that has been stood for a number of years , i have had the injectors reconditioned and new fuel return lines re-made and replaced the fuel filters i can get fuel the down to injector pump and out of the bleed screws on the side of the pump but when i turn engine on key cannot get fuel to come through high pressure pipes up to the injectors the pump is made by cav is it possible the pump may have its own filter as one man suggested although not sure were to locate any ideas Pat

You have CAV DPA pump I suspect the transfer pump is not pressurising suggest you remove the pump and carefully take off the plate at the fuel inlet end. This includes a spring loaded valve and a plastic gauze filter, check all are clean and the valve is able to move. Next check the vanes on the pump which are made from carbon and quite brittle any damage to them will mean they need replacing at the same time check the cover over the vanes as this can become badly scored. To go further into the pump requires special tools. Hope this is of some use.

Make sure you really have got all the air out of the system. I have found that air is often trapped in the fuel filter (thoroughly bleed at the filter head) which then passes into the injector pump even when fuel has previously been bled through.
Also, the lift pump valves may be worn, or have some sediment under them (there is a screen filter in the pump) which results in some air being sucked back and forth.
Have you got the injector pipes disconnected from the injectors? I find this is usually necessary, then crank engine until fuel shows. It does not come out at high full bore pressure.
If everything appears ok, resort to cranking the engine and applying a little Easystart. If you can run the engine with this for a few seconds it may be enough to get the fuel through.
I have spent many happy hours doing the same thing!
