Well contrary to that last answer , I have done it myself & have known of lots of others (Worked in a garage) & you can run it with petrol in. I am sure the person who posted had thought of the draining tank idea, but in the real world most of us will go for the easy option,not the expensive time consuming one even if it is the one recommended by garages.

Contrary to what you have been told, you should not run even an inch on petrol in a diesel engined vehicle. This is because the Diesel fuel lubricates the injection pump and running petrol through it can wreck a very expensive component.

The tank need draining and refilling. Which I am afraid is specialist task in that the contaminated fuel has to be disposed of correctly.

If u put in less than 1/2 tank then realised, fill the rest with diesel, it will belch white smoke for a while, keep running it & topping up with diesel till it runs clear.

how much? If less than 1/2 tank it will be ok, diesels will run on anything.
