How can I fix my Hotpoint First Edition 1000 Washing Machine?

Hi,

Hotpoint Washing machine (First Edition 1000)

Might be at the end of its 6 year life but, the drum some times turns, some times stops turning in the middle of a wash and when it is turning makes a grinding noise.

Fills & Drains fine

Any help greatly appreciated.

try turning the drum by hand, does it feel rough? is it loose ie can you move it up and down? if so you will need to change the spider and bearings, the stoping will be due to needing new carbon brushes in the motor
