how can i fix my hotpoint wd440 washer dryer?

switch the machine off at the wall...(my model is a wdl540) and under the front foot plate there is a switch to open the door, which you pull..andthen must put back....make sure the machine isnt full of water first if possible...
my awful new machine also flashed at me, when I tried to cancel the tumble dryer programme...and then fused itself...joy!!...but the switch thing is in my new instriuctions
