How does a charging system work on mower engine-Briggs & Stratton?

How does the charging system work on a Briggs & Stratton mower engine and is there an alternator hiding somewhere. Model 282707 12hp/30. Can only start by jump leads but never anyone here to do that

the altternator is under the flywheel,they are very reliable units so doubt that is the problem,it is more than likely afaulty battery. hope this helps.
