Mend Fiat Punto Petrol Half Full

How do i fix my petrol gauge on a fiat punto,year 2000?

My petrol gauge gets stuck on the half full mark but wont drop any lower until i switch the engine off.the low fuel warning light does work though.

might be a problem with your fuel level sensor inside the petrol tank,its attached to the pump and usually when it stops workin as it should the pump needs replacing.get a professional to take a look at it,the pump is under the rear seats,dont attempt yourself
