vauxhall zafira remote central locking not working! any ideas?

our 2002 zafira central locking has packed up. i can only open the doors with the key. i have checked the battery in remote (works fine as red neon glowing brightly when button pressed and it still disables the alarm ok) i checked the fuse which was blown, replaced it, re-set ignition key but still nothing! new fuse is ok and has not blown again. help it's driving me mad!!

Thanks gys I was struggling from one week replace the battery of remote but no sign of on off central locking,
After reading this post did the same thing
Keep holding lock button
Put into ignition
Turn on
Central locking goes on off automatically
Take the key off
Come out side try off n on key works fine

Hi I tried the ignition trick it worked once when I got out the car now not at all? Tried again and still nothing sometimes the fob light doesn't even flash fed up now guys I'm 7 months pregnant and can't afford to go to garage also on the x reg club are the back doors supposed to be working on Central locking as I have to constantly lean around to open them from the inside

i have just bought a vauxhall zafira about 2 weeks ago 02 reg. everything was fine. then things started faulting. the lights for the dials are not working>not to state the obvious have you tried the dimmer control on the right hand side of the steer wheel, the passenger back door is not working with the central locking system.>just had this problem myself i suspect the wiring has broken between the pillar and the back door link to forum http://howtomendit.com/answers.php?id=17988 and the engine management light has come on. any help with these problems would be greatly appreciated. by the the trick with reseting your key fob works thanks.

I tried the reset procedure with intermittent results.
Vauxhall Zafira 04
I took the remote fob apart to find that the 3 prongs along with the prongs that are bent over, had oxidised (got dirty) these fit on to the circuit board.I cleaned the contacts carefully by scraping them with a small pen knife. Now works perfectly.
This problem tested me for 2 years with intermittent results.

I have tried all of the above but still no luck! The central locking works but the key fob does not unlock the doors I can use the key in the drivers door but cannot use the buttons on the fob! The fob works as the light comes on when pressed! I have taken it to an auto elec and he said it may need a new module or something but I don't know which module to search for! Does anyone know which fuse is the one for remote central locking? X thanks Maria x

hi i have a vouxhall zafira 2009 reg automatic diesel, when i am in side the car i can open drive side door only but can not open passenger side and other two rear door, then i have to come out from car to pull there handle its open. when i lock and unlock the car with remot key(out side car)door lock and unlock fine. can you help for this issue please.

Update key fob did not work,well i took the key fob apart which is easy.and then took out new battery then there are three little mental spike looking like things,pull them up with out breaking them.then there is a little black flap to hold battery down there is 2 pin in there pull them out so they touch the battery.now you can put the key fob back together.i just pointed it to the car BINGO it works.

hi, just change battery, insert key into ignition, turn key until ignition light is on then press close on key fob, doors will lock, then unlock by themselves. remove key , remote will now operate from fob, from outside of car.

My 02 Zafira fob failed on me twice,replaced the battery and 2 weeks later stopped again.
Thanks to these comments, tried key in 2nd position pressed the close button and YES great it now works again.

Bl**dy amazing! Thanks for posting the solution to this - thought I was going to have to pay a visit to the Stealership and spend my hard-earned £££'s on a new keyless entry system. Instead it was a new C2032 battery from Halfords and a quick search for this page on Google!

Thanks for the advice. Put the key in, turned to ignition and pressed lock - it locked and then it unlocked immediately removed from ignition and now it all works again.

thanks so much for such great forum and answers. been changing batteries and even nearly went for a new remote, but just after reading a few of the answers, i got my old remote working perfectly after doing the "insert into ignition' thing just in 2 secs.

(2000) VAUXHALL ZAFIRA 1.8

I had to resolder a joint because somebody previously had been too heavy handed while changing the battery.
I then had to reset the fob and it is true, I was amazed...

place the key in the ignition

hold the lock button down on the fob

turn so ignition lights come on (mark II on the ignition)

and WAM BAM it works the locks reset themselves.

hi guys thanks for the advice. my battery had gone flat in remote. put the key in ignition turned the key to ignition lights then pressed the lock button, the doors locked then unlocked turned ignition off waited a few seconds and then it worked again. can now remote open and lock the car once again

Thanks pete. I inserted the key in to the ignition, pressed the lock button on the non working key that was in the ignition. (i could not turn it as we have had a new barrel fitted) and the doors now lock and unlock from my old key. It might be worth mentioning that upon dismantling the key when i was changing the battery, i noticed a small rfid chip which clips inside the horseshoe part of the plastic top of the key (with electronic buttons and battery part removed). This is i suppose registered by the ignition switch and it registered the key when i pressed the button. I believe this chip is probably the part that you need coded by the garage, however mine was original and has the same code as the working key. If your buttons break, make sure you dont lose this small chip when you slide off the button part. I hope that helps.

Thanks everyone for the tip on how to re-programe my key with the ignition as i went to my local vauxhall garage and was told by them that my key would have to be re-programed at a cost of £42.50.so glad i checked here.so a BIG thankyou to you all!!

OMG what a simple fix, i unlocked the driver door with the key...put it into ignition turned it one click (no lights on dash) pressed 'lock doors' button...car locked and unlocked ...took key out and voilla!!!!!! key works!

My Vauxhall Astra remote central locking stopped working too. The battery in my remote/key was flat so I replaced it, but it still didn't work, so I assume it loses the key code when the battery goes.

Putting the key in the ignition, holding the lock button down and then turning the ignition to the first position seems re-program it. It now works again hurrah!

You may need to re program the key.

I needed to do this and followed the instructions below

To reset remote turn ignition lights on with key press
lock on, key doors will lock then open, repeat this take key out. Remote should now work

I had this problem on two key remotes.
First place your key in the ignition and switch on - don't start the engine. Press the lock or unlock on the key and you may get a result. If not.....
You'll find that the battery connections on it's printed circuit board inside the key are 'dry joints'. If the battery wobbles in it's holder, you'll see what I mean.They are not quite making a good enough connection. Get hold of a long small tipped soldering iron and carefully resolder the connections withour burning the plastic.

Check the door wiring harnesses inside the corrugated flexible gaiters. Mine had cracked insulation, broken wires and short circuits which blew the fuses.
