It could have been due to a power surge which has fried your motherboard but im not sure
If you buy an extension lead get one with power surge cut out
Replacing a motherboard is a bit of a pain.

you dont say what operating system you use. try holding down F8 as its booting up and select safe mode. if that dont work hold down del as you turn the computer on to go into the bios. load bios defaults and press F10 to save and reboot. hope this helps.
